About the Project

For some people, a family heirloom is a watch or jewelry. For others, it’s a house, and what a beautiful one this is! This 2-story home built in the 1800s has been passed down through the generations before the current owners called the Bonacio Remodeling team to revitalize it.

On the first level, we sanded all the hardwood floors and the staircase and added a fresh new coat of paint to the walls and staircase. The dining area received a luxe treatment with moldings added to the wall and an imported Italian chandelier installed over the dining table. Off the dining room lies a half bath with newly reconfigured storage areas.

They say the kitchen is the heart of a home, and this one beats to the sound of 1950s swing music! This retro-inspired kitchen kept its original cabinets, albeit with a new paint color, and added new red countertops that look like they’re straight out of your favorite malt shop. New black and white checkerboard tile and American tin ceiling tiles with metal cornices complete the look.

Newly installed French doors in the kitchen open to the side solarium, which features two sets of trifold doors, custom-made hideaway cabinets, a tongue-and-groove beadboard accent wall, and Douglas fir ceilings. Tucked in the back corner of the first floor is a cozy living area with more Douglas fir ceilings that were extended over 10 feet high. Other new additions to the space are a wood stove and a sliding door that opens to the exterior paver patio. The centerpiece of the room, though, is the salvaged and protected wooden accent wall that forms the shape of a star. Following the house’s theme, this piece was custom-made and installed by a family member.

While two of the original bedrooms upstairs got a new coat of paint, the most impressive feature on the second level is the 566 SF addition. We built a guest bedroom that connects to a small hallway leading to the brand-new primary suite. Hardwood floors add warmth to the space, and we made custom-built closets that line one wall. Touches of luxury are found throughout the ensuite in the form of a tile surround shower, blue custom cabinets by our in-house design coordinator, Michael, gold fixtures, and designer tile. Topping off the primary suite is an office loft off the bedroom filled with custom pieces, including a bookshelf, storage closets, and a built-in desk area. Above, the pitched ceiling features rough-sawn lumber provided by Twisted Timber that wraps around the collar ties.
